If you're not ready for the long-term commitment and responsibility of pet adoption, you can still be a part of the Humane Society of Terrell County (HSTC) and help us fulfill our mission of finding loving permanent homes for abandoned and abused animals.
Be a Foster Parent
Every day the HSTC is alerted to homeless pets in abusive situations, those left behind by their “families” and those that are simply homeless. We're ready to spring into action and rescue them. But once they're safe, we need people to open their homes and hearts and care for them while they await adoption.
Fostering is a wonderful way to help animals in need. Plus, it allows you to enjoy the companionship of a pet without the long-term commitment. Since we do not have a shelter, our foster homes are the backbone of our organization!! We simply could not rescue any animals without them!
The people who open their hearts and homes to rescued animals are the backbone of our organization. It's perhaps the most meaningful way to help...and the most rewarding.
What is Fostering?
Fostering is taking a needy animal into your home and providing temporary shelter and care until a permanent home can be found.
Why Foster?
As an alternative to adoption, fostering allows you to experience the joy pets bring to our lives without making a long-term commitment. It's also vital to our rescue efforts. We often have to turn animals away due to lack of space. To us, just one more foster home means another life saved!
Can I choose the animal I foster?
Absolutely! You can choose to foster dogs, cats, puppies, kittens or any combination. We have several foster parents who take only small dogs, and some who specialize in a certain breed. Some prefer male cats, and some female. We will do our best to match you up with the most appropriate pet.
Who covers the expenses?
HSTC covers basic vet care (vaccinations, heartworm prevention, Flea and tick prevention, spay/neuter), as well as food if a special diet is required. However, we do need you to help one step further by providing litter (for cats), toys, treats, food for those not on special diet and plenty of LOVE!
What are foster's reponsibilities?
The foster parent is responsible for providing shelter and love to the pet. Being in a home where he receives basic training and socialization increases the pet's chances of being adopted. Foster parents also get involved with the pet's adoption, and provide our volunteers with information for the pet's online profile.
